2009 dodge ram 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned and re-engineered for 2009. introductionthe 2009 dodge ram is a new truck that incorporates dodge's forward-thinking style and refinements to cosmetics and engineering. The dodge ram is a light-duty full-size pickup, a so-called half-ton truck, but this latest version lacks the 1500 badge of previous versions because the heavy-duty versions (2500, 3500) share little in appearance and running gear.  technically the truck is not all new. The v6 and 4. 7-liter v8 engines (overhauled recently), the brake system (upgraded), and transmissions have not been substantially changed for the 2009 model year. In a few cases, such as the front suspension geometry and the forward frame sections, the design remained but new materials are being used for more strength, less weight, or both. Some audio and climate control systems, and the middle front row seat may appear familiar, too. But that's where any similarities between the 2008 and 2009 models end.  the bodywork is all new and more aerodynamic. A crew cab model has been added to the mix; it has more cabin space than the quad cab but in more manageable dimensions than the retired mega cab. The new crew cab required its own pickup bed, dubbed rambox: a perfect rectangle inside, it sports a pair of lockable bins along the bed sides, but can carry the standard 4x8-foot sheet flat on the bed floor.  interiors have been given new styles and materials, new center console with shifter for some models, and new amenities and gadgets. Virtually every mechanical and air management system has been refined to limit noise and vibrations that become fatiguing over time.  chrysler's image-building hemi 5. 7-liter v8 has been tuned up to 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque; it's the most powerful v8 in any regular or mid-size-cab pickup at time of introduction, and it didn't come at the expense of fuel economy. At the other end, a new rear suspension employs a design returning to full-size pickups after a decades-long absence and currently used on some sport-utilities like the jeep grand cherokee and chevy tahoe that see off-pavement use.  what dodge didn't do is follow the last decade's trend of making half-ton pickups carry and tow more than the previous generation. There are plenty of dodge (and other) heavy-duty pickups for pulling big trailers or hauling two tons of hay, and the decision to keep the light-duty ram in the light-duty work realm pays dividends in comfort and is beneficial in terms of fuel economy. lineupthe 2009 dodge ram comes in six trim levels: st, slt, sport, trx, r/t, and laramie. Special edition models, such as big horn and lone star, are regional offerings and primarily cosmetic or packaging changes. The 5. 7-liter v8 hemi is offered across the board. No manual transmissions are offered.  ram st models 21,270-$29,735) are workhorses, with standard vinyl floor and manual windows, although they do include chrome bumpers and grille outline, air conditioning, abs, cd player, variable intermittent wipers, locking tailgate, sentry key and on 4wd, electric-shift. Options include chrome wheels, two-tone paint, cruise control, trailer mirrors, limited-slip differential and alternate axle ratios, sliding rear window, sirius radio and mopar wifi.  ram slt models 25,465-$34,850) upgrade with carpet floor covering, floor mats, 40/20/40 split-bench seat, overhead console, cruise control, remote keyless entry, power windows and door locks, heated mirrors and 17-inch painted aluminum wheels. Trx features electric-shift transfer case on 4wd models, unique shocks and ride height, 17-inch aluminum wheels and a full-size spare tire, heavy-duty vinyl floor covering, cloth 40/20/40 split-bench front seat, folding rear bench seat (quad cab models), tilt steering column, remote keyless entry and standard two-tone paint. Pay extra for an engine block heater, power-sliding rear window, heated power folding mirrors, bedliner, 3. 92:1 axle ratio, limited-slip differential, tip start, cruise control, and uconnect studios sirius satellite radio. Ram sport 29,365-$38,670) is available in all three cab styles but is labeled r/t on the regular cab. It adds a 5. 7-liter hemi, slate-gray contrast-stitched bucket seats, body-color fascia, fog lamps and 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels. R/t models use a 4. 10:1 rear axle for superior acceleration but will still tow 5000 pounds. Options mirror those on slt. Ram laramie 37,870-$43,240) is the top of the line, with leather heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, chromed door handles and mirrors, and security alarm. Extra-cost features include 20-inch aluminum wheels, sunroof, navigation and rear-seat entertainment. The illusion comes from more sheetmetal and smaller gaps.  for the last 15 years rams have had lots of space between tires and fenders but the '09 narrows the gap. Side panels have increased in height by nearly 3. 5 inches, to close the crevasse between the truck and the ground, yet the approach angle critical to pickup use hasn't diminished. The split between cab and bed is narrower, and there's a lateral seal in it to reduce air turbulence, the side mirrors stand off from the door glass, the sides are flatter, and the tailgate spoiler and windshield are both rounder for improved aerodynamics. Seen from behind where the tires appear almost flush with the body panels, the truck looks quite trim, rather like a european-cut dress shirt as opposed to an american-cut shirt.  there is no large seam between the front bumper and the grille and lights, and if the truck does not have fog lights the bumper does not have the outline marks that show it's missing something. The rear bumper is larger, has half-round openings for the sport exhaust on trucks so equipped, and both 7- and 4-pin trailer plugs are fitted adjacent to the rear plate. On upper variants the mirrors have led puddle lamps and the headlamps are dual-bulb units, the first since the mid-'90s sport models, and on the 2009 sport the front bumper is deeper and body-colored. The rambox of crew cab models has a perfectly rectangular interior with no wheel-well intrusions. The crew cab rambox is 49 inches wide, ensuring it can carry the ubiquitous 4x8 building materials flat on the floor. Side rails with cleats secure the cargo, and a bed divider that locks into place segments the bed into smaller areas or can be flipped over and used as a bed extender with the tailgate down.  along the sides of the rambox are two locking bins, capable of holding 120 standard 12-ounce cans on the left side (where the fuel fill is) and 130 on the right. These boxes have locking lids, drains, lights and 90-degree opening lids; together the volume exceeds that of a 55-gallon drum. The new seats offer good support and plenty of room. We swapped through a few ram models back-to-back to compa.

2006 dodge dakota review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Dakota is the largest pickup in its class and the only mid-size truck available with a v8. Dodge claims its 7150-pound maximum towing capacity is by far the best in class.  the dakota looks big. Completely redesigned for 2005, it's larger than before and looks almost as big and tough as the full-size dodge ram. Getting in is easy, and the redesigned interior is comfortable and convenient with controls that are easy to reach and operate. The club cab version of the dakota achieved a five-star safety rating in frontal and side-impact crash tests conducted by the federal government.  for 2006, the rear doors on club cabs have been redesigned to open wider. Otherwise, changes between 2005 and 2006 are limited to packaging: a new sunroof and new sound systems are options for 2006 club cab models. An auxiliary audio jack has been added to allow playback from personal audio devices, such as an ipod. Sirius satellite radio now comes standard on 2006 laramie models. Dakota is available with a choice of v6 and v8 engines. Underway, the dakota is smooth and quiet. The optional 4. 7-liter v8 burbles subtly in the background when cruising, but really scoots when the throttle is mashed. Yet its fuel economy is rated within 1 mpg of the standard v6's. The steering is light for easy maneuverability in crowded parking lots and the dakota responds quickly on mountain roads and tracks nice and straight on the highway. lineupdodge dakota comes in two body styles: the club cab is an extended-cab version with small, reverse-opening rear doors to access the rear compartment and a 6 1/2-foot bed. Each can seat five to six passengers, but back-seat riders will be much more comfortable in the quad cab. Both bodies are built on the same 131. 1-inch wheelbase.  three trim levels are available, st, slt, and laramie.  the standard engine is a 3. 7-liter v6. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission. A 4. 7-liter v8 engine is available for all models 785-$860). A high-output version of the 4. 7-liter v8 is available for the slt and laramie. Side-curtain airbags for the front and rear seats are optional 495); we recommend them because they are designed provide head protection. Head restraints and shoulder belts are provided for all seat positions. A sunroof is available for the quad cab. An optional hands-free communications system that uses bluetooth technology integrates a compatible cellphone with the truck's audio system.  option packages for 2006 include trx, trx4 off-road, r/t, and night runner. Each is available in the club cab or quad cab configuration.  trx includes unique five-spoke/five-lug 16-inch aluminum wheels and goodyear wrangler off-road tires; tow hooks; a limited-slip differential; and trx decal on the cargo box. The trx package is available on 2wd st, slt and laramie. Trx4 off-road includes everything in the trx package plus painted shocks; an increased ride height of one inch; heavy-duty service package; skid plates; trx4 off-road cargo box decal; and slush mats.    r/t is an slt with the high-output 4. 7-liter engine and: 17-inch five-spoke/five-lug chrome-clad aluminum wheels; hood scoop; sport appearance package (in red flame or black only); body color grille surround; chrome exhaust tip; cargo box decals; r/t identification on headrests and instrument cluster; and satin silver accents for the center stack and door remotes.  night runner. walkaroundthe dodge dakota looks massive and menacing. The dakota retains its family resemblance to the dodge ram and durango, though it looks crisper and the grille is laid back, not vertical. Dakota's frame is shared in part with the durango suv.  a coil-over-shock independent front suspension is used on both 2wd and 4wd models, with conventional leaf springs at the rear. All models come with front and rear tow hooks and tie-downs in the bed. interiorthe interior was redesigned for 2005 and continues with little change for 2006. Black-on-white gauges are outlined with chrome rings, and the central speedometer is about twice as large as the other two gauges. The angular center stack houses the sound system, climate controls and vents. The designers added in more brushed sheet metal accents around the cockpit, and the whole design works very well in terms of usability, convenience, and reach. The plastic materials look good but not great, and interior fits and finishes were good.  the driver's seat looked good and felt good with its upper and lower support wings and good padding where it counts. Quad cab interiors are roomy. By making the dakota larger, dodge expanded the quad cab interior to nearly 56 cubic feet. The rear seats are deliberately stepped up on their bases so that rear-seat occupants can see out more easily, and they are split into 40/20/40 folding sections with two rear cupholders. Rear-seat room is generous for family use, with 33 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seat. A center console and lots of cubbyholes provide space to stash stuff. driving impressionwe found the dodge dakota surprisingly quiet, smooth and civil in its behavior, more like a car than a truck inside. Thick glass, big mufflers, and generous sound insulation throughout the body and firewall help reduce noise.  the dakota drives bigger than it looks, with a hefty, ram-like way about it, a nicely muscular street swagger.  the v8 is worth every penny. The v6 feels a bit light on power for this big, heavy pickup and it doesn't offer a big fuel economy advantage.  the 3. 7-liter v6 is rated 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. The 4. 7-liter v8 generates 230 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. The 4. 7-liter high output v8 is rated 260 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, thanks to higher compression and more aggressive valve timing. A v6 4wd automatic is rated 15/19 mpg city/highway by the epa; a v8 4wd automatic rates 14/19. At highway speeds it settled down to a nice background burble in overdrive fifth gea. 2005 dodge dakota review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, bigger, with the only optional v8 in the class. introductionthe all-new 2005 dodge dakota represents yet another bold move into the truck market for dodge. With sales of basic small trucks in steady decline, dodge has redesigned the dakota as a much larger, much edgier and more macho midsize pickup. The dakota is now the largest and by far the most powerful pickup in the segment.  dakota competes against ford ranger, chevrolet colorado, gmc canyon, toyota tacoma, and nissan frontier. As with full-size pickups, competition for compact or mid-size trucks is hot. Though the ranger is dated, canyon, colorado, tacoma, and frontier are totally new pickups for either 2004 or 2005. Dakota's biggest advantage, other than its larger size, is the availability v8 engines, not one, but two of them. Its towing capacity has been expanded to 7,150 pounds, by far the most in the class.  built on a new frame, the new dakota is substantially longer than the previous model with styling that complements the recently redesigned durango suv and ram pickup. Getting in is easy and the redesigned interior is comfortable and convenient with controls that are easy to reach and operate.  underway, the dakota is smooth and quiet. The optional 4. 7-liter v8 burbles subtly in the background when cruising, but really scoots when the throttle is mashed. Yet its fuel economy is rated within 1 mpg of the standard v6's. The steering is light for easy maneuverability in crowded parking lots. Standard-cab pickups have faded in popularity as families are increasingly using pickups for recreation and as a transportation alternative to a car. So dodge doesn't even offer a regular cab dakota.  either body style and all three trim levels come standard with a 3. 7-liter v6. A 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine 785) is available on all models. A high-output version of the 4. 7-liter v8 is available for the slt and laramie trim levels. Both bodies are built on the same wheelbase. Club cabs now feature small doors to access the rear compartment, which the old model did not have.  club cab and quad cab are available in st, slt, or lariat trim levels. The st trim level comes standard with 16-inch wheels. Slt adds 16-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, tilt steering, dual rear seats, and power windows, locks and mirrors. In addition, the mopar aftermarket parts side of chrysler will have dozens of appearance, performance and entertainment options that can be installed at the dealership before or after delivery. The dakota retains the look of the dodge ram and durango, though it looks crisper and the grille is laid back, not vertical. All models come with front and rear tow hooks and tie-downs in the bed.  new to the dakota is an enhanced accident response system or ears, which automatically turns on interior lights and unlocks doors in the event of an air bag deployment, so that medical or response personnel can help faster and easier. interiorjust about everything on the inside of the dakota is new. There are new black-on-white gauges with chrome rings, with the central speedometer about twice as large as the other two gauges. The angular center stack houses the sound system, climate controls and vents. The rear seats are deliberately stepped up on their bases so that rear-seat occupants can see out more easily, and they are split into 40/20/40 folding sections with two rear cupholders.  the driver's seat, the only one we occupied for any length of time, looked good and felt good with its upper and lower support wings and good padding where it counts. Interior room, even for a tall, gangly driver like me, was excellent. It's the best in the class with this new cab size. A center console and lots of cubbyholes provide space to stash stuff.  new interior features for the 2005 dakota include standard head restraints and shoulder belts for all seat positions, taller head restraints, optional sirius satellite radio, and an optional hands-free communications system that uses bluetooth technology to make a compatible cellphone work as part of the truck. driving impressionthe test truck, which was configured for five with front bucket seats, was surprisingly quiet, smooth and civil in its behavior, more like a car than a truck inside. The glass is 20 percent thicker, mufflers are larger, and there's more sound insulation throughout the body and firewall than before. It drives bigger than it looks, with a hefty, ram-like way about it, a nicely muscular street swagger.  the 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine costs a little extra, but for us it was worth every penny, because fuel mileage barely takes a hit (epa-estimated city/highway 15/19 for the v6, 14/19 for the v8). The 3. 7-liter magnum v6 is rated 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. The 4. 7-liter v8 generates 230 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. At highway speeds it settled down into a nice background burble in overdrive fifth gear. Its strong torque means plenty of low-down grunt for pulling payloads of up to 1,800 pounds or towing up to 7,150 pounds.  the transmission has perfectly spaced ratios for trucking, and worked without complaint, roughness or harshness, even in high-rpm full-throttle upshifts. With only two occupants and no load, it really scoots from the stoplight despite the nearly 4800 pound weight of the quad cab 4x4. The chunky steering wheel feels great in the hands. The truck tracks extremely well, responds quickly to inputs, and stays hunkered down during mountain road playtime. Its 265/70r16 bfgoodrich wrangler tires were both grippy in corners and very quiet at highway speeds, adding a measure of plushness to the ride quality that we really appreciated. And the dakota start. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ Leather Seats✔ Chrome Wheels✔ Bluetooth✔ Aluminum Wheels

Chrysler also claims that the all-wheel drive system that's available in the Charger is the most advanced system offered in its class, as it completely disconnects the front wheels when not needed. Also, the R/T and SRT8 models offer phenomenally good straight-line performance, with a drag-strip-worthy quarter-mile time in the high. Styling itself is also a big part of the Charger's appeal, as it pairs retro-muscle-car cues with modern touches
